Authorities in Koh Samui, Surat Thani province, are investigating the fatal shooting of a four-year-old mixed Thai Bangkaew-Labrador dog named Lucky. The incident occurred on Monday, February 17, in Soi Ang Thong 6, where the dog was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head. Police suspect the weapon used was a .22-caliber firearm.

The dog’s owner, 35-year-old Wiramaya, reported that Lucky had left home for his usual morning walk but never returned. After searching for him, she was informed by a neighbor that her pet had been found dead. Speaking to Channel 7, she expressed her distress over the killing and questioned the motive behind the act.
Wiramaya also shared that her daughter, who had grown up with Lucky, was deeply affected by the loss, struggling to cope with the sudden death of her beloved pet.
Kritniti Thongthip, Superintendent of Koh Samui Police Station, stated that the shooter is likely a local resident. Officers plan to question individuals in the area who own .22-caliber firearms as part of their investigation.
The case has sparked debate among the public. While many have expressed sympathy for the grieving family and condemned the shooting, others have raised concerns about pet owners allowing their dogs to roam unsupervised, arguing that not everyone is comfortable with stray or unleashed animals in public spaces.

A similar case occurred in December last year in Songkhla province, where another dog named Lucky, a female Siberian Husky, was beaten to death after wandering away from home.
Officials, community members, and animal welfare advocates have taken interest in the case, with calls for responsible pet ownership and stricter measures against animal cruelty.
