Seabed Drilling Begins for Proposed Koh Samui Bridge Project

Seabed drilling for a proposed bridge linking Koh Samui to the mainland of Surat Thani commenced on February 10, 2025, marking a significant step in the geographical survey for the ambitious infrastructure project. The Koh Samui Marine Office issued an advisory warning vessels to exercise caution in the affected area, outlining specific geographic coordinates between latitude 09°19’15.19″N, longitude 009°49’05.59″E, and latitude 09°24’18.28″N, longitude 009°57’9.47″E.

The project, overseen by the office’s acting director, Adul Ralukemul, involves the installation of illuminated buoys to clearly mark the drilling zone, which stretches from the Koh Samui district to Khanom district in Nakhon Si Thammarat. To ensure safety, maritime vessels are advised to maintain a minimum distance of 300 meters from the marked area.

This step in the ongoing planning for the bridge project aims to assess the seabed conditions in preparation for future construction. Further updates on the project are expected as work progresses.
